Lancashire Wedding Show

So, I haven't posted in a few days. This is for a number of reasons:

1. I have been very lazy the past few days when at home.

2. There has been a lot of events going on.

3. I haven't had much to post about.

4. A lot of thought process was going on regarding the wedding.

However, I am now here to talk about the Great Lancashire Wedding Show that I went to on Sunday. I don't have many pictures because I was far to excited to see everything and absorb as much information as I could.

So on Sunday 21st April, T, my mum and myself went to the wedding show not really knowing what to expect. When we walked in, there was a mass of companies there for different aspects of the wedding. I had been to many 'convention' like events and this is pretty much what it was, there was a fashion show for bride/b.m./m.o.h/m.o.t.b/groom/m.o.t.g which the music from there was unbelievably loud!

T got to check out a few suits and I even got to try on my first ever wedding dress!!! Not nearly as exciting as I thought it would be (especially when the woman said 'it might be a bit difficult to get you in this because it's a fitted dress but I suppose you have smaller breasts that the other women that have tried so it might work.' when I tried on a mermaid. Safe to say I wont be going to their boutique anytime soon!!)

If there are any wedding shows going on near you, I highly recommend them, they are so informative and you can get some good ideas for your wedding. I came back with all this stuff

And this picture really doesn't do justice of how much stuff I got!

I decided I would sort it all out to organize it

but by far my favorite thing that I got were these sticky notes (which have come in handy when reading through the wedding catalogues)

So there we are, not the best post I have done but it's better than nothing right?

How much?!?!

So a little random fact about me, I am a beautician in training. I have almost finished the course and have always had a passion for beauty. Typically this mean that I immediately thought about what makeup and skin care I will need for my wedding.

Since I started doing a makeup unit on the course, I noticed that I hate having my makeup done. It bores me, I want to be looking around, it isn't done in my own time and I am never 100% happy with the outcome. Although that is probably me just being silly but I couldn't really see me getting my makeup done on my wedding morning by anyone other than myself, I would just get annoyed and that wouldn't be the best start to the day.

However, I don't want to use my cheap makeup on my wedding day. I want to pamper myself a little. Since I spend most of my time one YouTube, it isn't surprising that I found Kandee Johnson's video '7 Steps to a Flawless Face (Foundation)' video. I love Kandee and I have been watching her for years!
I really trust her advice so I followed it to a tee. I went and looked for the prices of her makeup
used in the tutorial and calculated the price.

For that particular face makeup as well and an Urban Decay 'Naked 2' palette, a set of brushes,
MAC lipstick and a few other bits and bobs, it comes to roughly £250. Personally I don't think
it's that bad considering it is about £100 for a makeup artist for one day on just the bride and
since I have a few bridesmaids, that price will add up. On the other hand, if I buy this makeup it
would last me longer that just the one day so I would get more bang for my buck!

Another unit I studied was facials. I love the idea of having facial, if you use the right products
and tools. I have seen/heard a lot about the Clarisonic 'home facial tool' and to me,
it honestly does sounds great. The price however doesn't, £200?!?!?? that's just silly money!
Me being me I chose to research more for a cheaper alternative. I found one too!
The Skinsonic, it basically does the same job for quarter of the price. Awesome!!
That will bring my subtotal (including makeup) up to £300.

Now, you can't really by a facial tool and not have any products to go with right? When looking
for products I have to be careful. I have dry/normal skin but I get spots easily if I'm not
careful with what products I use (I don't have sensitive skin though) so I decided to look
for a higher brand's skin care range suited to dry skin. This is when I came across Benefit's
range which is entirely devoted to dry skin. The only problem is that it isn't devoted to
people on a budget. With eight product in the range at £20 give or take it gives a total of
roughly £160 which I know you don't need all of the products but you might as well!

The grand total of my wedding makeup and skincare if T agrees: £460!!!!

That's a huge chunk of the budget but I think it's a good investment!!
What do you think?

Gold?

Following yesterdays post, I went to B&Q and got a handful of blue paint chips. I chose the best blues and spread them out to ask T (the fiancee) what he thought. He though it looked stupid! -sad face-

So I got thrown back to square one and tried to think of another theme. Just ask I was wondering what would be a good idea, T suggested gold. I don't know why I hadn't thought of that option. I have fallen in love with the colour gold recently and I even had it as the colour theme for my birthday last week. Duhh!

When I googled 'gold wedding themes' the majority were the typical (in my view tacky) looking weddings:

This to me doesn't quite give me the elegant, classy, regal look I want. Admittedly  these kind of pictures put me off a bit but I chose to carry on looking and find something more suited to my taste.

Even though this wedding looks a bit too dark for my liking, it's a step in the right direction.

Then I found these two mood boards. The gold isn't too in-your-face but they are there in a very beautiful way! This confirmed it for me, gold it is! Now I just need to think how I am going to keep it from going tacky!

Colour Theme

Colour themes in this household is always a tricky subject! We both have very different tastes/styles. Choosing the wedding colour theme will take some time I reckon but here are my ideas.

Since I have gotten older, my girly-ness has crept up on me! If you were to ask me when I was younger I would have probably wanted a yellow wedding or something non-girly. However, now I would dream of a pink wedding that is very romantic. Something similar to Kelly Dooley's wedding on TLC's 'Say Yes To The Dress', over the top girly!! Or maybe something like this:

But sadly, my fiancee doesn't approve of that! grrr

So then I thought, what about keeping it girly but not too in your face. Maybe purples?
A bit like this:

His reply? . . . 'That's too gothic'. Which left me stuck since they were the choices for my wedding. So since it is our wedding, I began to look at other options.

Green - Doesn't look good on me
Yellow - Too in-your-face
Orange - Just no!
Red - Very popular recently and my mum had it at her wedding two years ago.

That just left blue. I don't mind blue but when I looked at blue themes online, they were either deep blue or light/baby/Tiffany blue. I love Tiffany Blue but since I want a unique wedding that shade is too popular for me. Then I thought maybe I shouldn't stick to one shade of blue? That was everything would look put together but not in unison. Plus if I was to go with one shade, especially a lighter one, it may be too cold looking!

So this is where I'm up to on this subject, I am about to run out to the local DIY store to get colour swatches and see if I can get this theme fiancee approved!! Wish me luck!

Shoes and the City

I'm just going to throw it out there! I am a sucker for heels!!! At eighteen years old, and after having gotten rid of plenty, I still have over fifty pairs of shoes. This meant that to me, it would be very important to find my 'perfect shoe' for my wedding.

It has always been my dream to have something inspired from Sex and the City (SATC) since am probably more obsessed with that whole show plus the films than I am with shoes. I searched high and low for a replica of her Vivienne Westwood wedding dress and although they were available, they are completely sold out everywhere!!! So I decided to combine my two loves.

Since Carrie Bradshaw is also a shoe lover, it's no surprise that her wedding ones we amazing! She chose the Manolo Blahnik's Something Blue shoes. Which would fit perfectly into my colour theme of blues!
My problem with these were that they retail between £500 and £700 for the real ones. But who really needs to have the real ones?! I am perfectly happy to get some replicas as long as they do the job! These are a much more reasonable route since replicas retail for £50 to £80. Much more budget friendly!!

First thing's first!

After all the congratulations have been done, the first thing I wanted to do was to find a journal. I had been watching FleurDeFource's wedding channel one YouTube, BrideDeFource where she and her sister put up a video about all of the different ones available in the UK.

However, since I want to keep cost down and DIY as much as I can, I went with that option. It is still a work in progress but here is what I got from Ryman's . . .

Black A5 Binder - £1.89

A5 Clear plastic wallets - £1.75

A5 Dividers - 69p

I Highly recommend buying this instead of the £20+ prices I have seen for wedding journals!!
